In an effort to help both readers and writers of the story get a feel of the environment of Twilight, I've decided to lay down the basics of how the world in our story works, economically, in terms of geography, and just a basic overview of things. Of course, being the lazy ass I am, I'm doing it in parts, over this weekend.
So, without any further ado, here is Pt. 1 of a more indepth look into the Earth in -this- biznatch. Or rather, how it all began.

1945 - First test of the Atomic Bomb in the Jemez Mountains in northern New Mexico. It is reported that a blind girl saw the flash 120 miles away.
1963 - American President John F. Kennedy is assasinated.
1976 - Cray invents the Supercomputer.
1980 - Break up of Yugoslavia.
1991 - Death of the Soviet Union.
1994 - After 25 years, U.S. government privatizes Internet management.
2001 - World Trade Center destroyed by Osama bin Laden's followers.
2003 - United Nations Coalition begins War on Iraq.
2005 - EMP by unknown terrorist organization disrupts communications in Washington.
2006 - North Korea is charged with plotting to strike several European countries.
2008 - Stephen Emmerich designs energy efficient hydrogen fuel cells.
2010 - Mission to send man to orbit around Mars fails, complication cause ship to destruct mid journey.
2015 - After much debate, first successful human clone is created. Several follow, all are successes.
2021 - Chimera Project of gene splicing between animals and humans made public, and congress votes for it to become legal.
2023 - Chimera's become available for creation and purchase in the United States; some argue it is a form of slavery.
2027 - A.I is born. Robots with extremely realistic human characteristics become available for sale.
2031 - North Korea is occupied by American forces, little resistance.
2032 - Glitch in Russian computer systems causes accidental launch of Nuclear Weapon. The bomb itself discharges over mountain ranges in England. England retaliates unwittingly with air strikes against Russia.
2045 - Accident involving military officials in North Korea causes systematic launch of Nuclear weapons over the United States. Many are shot down, several targets are hit.
2046 - The United States strikes back. North Korea surrenders after Atomic drop.
2047 - Citizens in England on high alert after several terrorist attacks, followed by many against the US.
2050 - North Korea engages in war with England.
2052 - United States enters war.
2053 - Korea targets several hundred key military Sattillites.
2062 - War has grown into full scale nuclear bombardment back and forth between nations viciously.
2064 - James Emmerich leads citizens riots in the US against the war.
2065 - James Emmerich is assinated. The skies are scorched gray in a botched attempt by the United States in ending the ongoing slaughtering.
2066 - Communications across the world suddenly blackout for twelve days, during the first hour of the twelveth day of December.
2067 - Violent enviromental occurances wreak havoc through the planet, the horribly damaged ozone layer turning to a murky void.
2068 - War ends, Nicknamed now the 'Eve of the Twilight', with no way of fighting it, as world suffers largest famine in its history.
2075 - Thousands of civilians in the city of New York are killed during a collousal fire that ravages for weeks.
2084 - The United States Remnant supplies civilians with food and 'light shelters' across the various surviving cities, in order to help end starvation by creating more crops in the desecrated soil.
The Present Year Is 2137.
Approximate accumulated death toll during the Eve of Twilight war: 998,000,000.
Number of Animal Species Known Extinct: 378.
Atomic Weapons Recorded to Have Been Dropped: 94.
Percent of Unemployed and/or Homeless Worldwide: 86%
Few 'Thriving' Provinces In The World Left: Several parts of England, 18 of the remaining states in the US, Japan, A percentage of China, and Austrailia.
